Perhaps you've received a beautiful flower bouquet for your birthday, follow these easy steps to look after your blooms:

1.  Add fresh tap water to the vase each day. Flowers are thirsty (some more than others) adding fresh water will delay the water turning bad. Once the water turns bad the flowers will start to die off.

2.  Snip the stems at a 45 degree angle every few days. Giving the flowers a fresh cut means they'll absorb more water and should keep fresher for longer.

3.  Place the flower bouquet out of direct sunlight and away from heat.

4.  Remove flowers as they expire. Some flowers last longer than others. If you leave dead flowers next to the fresher ones very soon the bacteria will enter the water and kill off the fresh blooms.
