Make Your Own Holiday Decorations
Bringing the outdoors in is a great way to add a natural element to your holiday decorating.
One of our favorites is dried citrus. Here in Southern California we are fortunate to have citrus fruit pretty much year round. Next time you're at the Farmer's Market or store pick up an handful of oranges - grapefruit, lime and lemon work nicely too.
Here's how we do it:
Thinly slice the fruit (0.5 inches)
Spread out on a baking sheet
Pop in the oven at 200F and leave for two of hours - turning over after 30 minutes
Depending on the thickness of the fruit they may need to be in for 3 hours - you'll no when they are ready, the fruit will become translucent.
Once dried, leave to cool before stringing together with florist wire to make a garland, or poke a hole in the top of the orange, place ribbon through the hole and place on the Christmas tree.
Dried citrus can be added to your Holiday wreath or as a finishing touch to your gift wrapping.
