The Cosmos Flower
The Cosmos flower is a staple of any summer garden.
Nearly all Cosmos are annuals meaning they don't come back every year. They spring to life at the beginning of Summer and with some dead heading along the way they are around until early Fall.
How to Grow
Plant in Spring for blooming in Summer. Cosmos enjoys full sun, but here in LA (where there's a fair bit of heat) they like some shade. Cosmos prefer dry soil over wet - too wet and the Cosmos will rot. They are drought and heat tolerant so a great option for flower growing in Southern California
Types of Cosmos
A personal favorite is the cupcake cosmos. A showy flower with light blooms on upright stems. There's the chocolate cosmos too - gently press the petals and guess the smell... chocolate!
Garden Friendly
Drought tolerant, attracts hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.
Where to buy seeds
Eden Brothers have a great selection and your local nursery will have packets of seeds too.
